Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 15, 2026

Thank you for visiting the Bookmode website (bookmode.io, the “Site”) and for using the Bookmode application programming interface (api.bookmode.io, the “API,” and together with the Site, the “Service”). The Service is owned and operated by Meteoric, LLC (“Bookmode,” “we,” “our,” or “us”).

Bookmode is a business-to-business data service: we provide canonical metadata about books, editions, and authors to developers and organizations through the API. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you join our waitlist, create an account, or use the API, how we use it, and the choices you have. It does not apply to the practices of third parties we do not own or control.

Representative

We value your privacy and your rights as a data subject. Meteoric, LLC has appointed Prighter Group with its local partners as our privacy representative and your point of contact for the European Union (EU). Prighter gives you an easy way to exercise your privacy-related rights, such as requests to access or erase personal data. To contact us via our representative, Prighter, or to make use of your data-subject rights, please visit app.prighter.com/portal/16009291502.

Privacy Rights of Minors

The Bookmode Service is not available to anyone under thirteen (13) years of age. It is a developer and business service and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly solicit or collect personal information from anyone under thirteen (13) years of age. Anyone under eighteen (18) but older than thirteen (13) must have a parent or legal guardian's permission to use the Service.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information without your consent, please contact us and we will delete it.

Information We Collect

You are not required to create an account to browse the Site. We collect personal information in the following ways.

Information you provide to us

  • Waitlist signups. When you join our pre-launch waitlist, we collect your email address, and optionally your name and a short “use case” description you choose to share, along with which page you signed up from.
  • Account registration. If you create a Bookmode API account, we collect your email address and a password, which we store only in hashed form (see Security).
  • Payment information (paid plans, when available). Paid API plans are billed through our third-party payment processor, Stripe. Stripe collects and processes your payment-card and billing details directly; Bookmode does not receive or store your full card number. We retain only the Stripe customer and subscription identifiers needed to manage your billing and plan.
  • Communications. If you email our support address or otherwise contact us, we keep the contents of that correspondence and your contact details.

Information we collect automatically

  • API usage and request logs. When you call the API, we log metadata about each request for metering, quota enforcement, security, and support — including the API key used, the endpoint and parameters requested (for example, an ISBN or search term), the timestamp, the response status and result count, the credits consumed, and the originating IP address.
  • Authentication and security logs. To secure accounts and prevent abuse, we record sign-in attempts (email, IP address, browser or user-agent, and success or failure), active session metadata, and API-key lifecycle events (creation, renaming, rotation, and revocation, with the associated IP address and user-agent).
  • Site logs and cookies. When you use the Site, our servers and cookies may collect standard technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, and pages visited (see Cookies and Tracking Technologies).

We do not collect date of birth, gender, social-media logins, or precise geolocation, and we do not require them to use the Service.

How We Use Your Information

Bookmode uses your personal information to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Service and respond to your API requests;
  • Authenticate your account, issue and manage API keys, and secure your access;
  • Meter usage, enforce plan quotas and rate limits, and (for paid plans) bill you and manage your subscription;
  • Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents;
  • Provide customer support and respond to your inquiries;
  • Send you account- and service-related communications, such as waitlist and early-access updates, security notices, and material changes to our terms or this policy; and
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our agreements.

Bookmode does not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

Third-Party Services

We use the following categories of third-party services to operate and improve Bookmode:

  • Payment processing. We use Stripe to process payments for paid API plans. Your use of Stripe is subject to Stripe's own terms and privacy policy.
  • Infrastructure and hosting. The Service runs on our own servers and databases, with logging and monitoring systems that we operate. IP addresses and request metadata described above may be processed by these systems for reliability and security.
  • Analytics. We rely on first-party server logs to understand aggregate traffic and improve the Service. We do not use third-party analytics providers, advertising networks, or cross-site tracking.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

When you sign in to a Bookmode account or dashboard, we set a secure, HTTP-only session cookie so we can keep you signed in. We use the following types of cookies:

  • Essential cookies: required for core functionality such as authentication and keeping you signed in.
  • Preference cookies: store settings you choose.

We do not currently use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Most browsers accept cookies by default, but you can adjust your browser settings to refuse cookies or to alert you when one is sent. Note that some functions of the Service — including signing in — may not work if essential cookies are disabled.

Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account or waitlist entry remains active, or as needed to provide the Service:

  • Account and waitlist data: retained while your account is active or you remain on the waitlist.
  • Deleted accounts: when you delete your account, we will delete the associated personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required for legal compliance, billing and tax records, dispute resolution, or fraud prevention.
  • Usage, security, and billing logs: retained for a limited period consistent with security, auditing, and legal or financial-recordkeeping needs, then deleted or aggregated.

Security

We endeavor to safeguard and protect our users' personal information, both online and offline. Data in transit is encrypted using industry-standard TLS (Transport Layer Security). Passwords, API keys, and session tokens are never stored in plaintext — we store only a one-way cryptographic hash, and the plaintext value of an API key is shown to you only once, at creation. Access to personal information is strictly limited to personnel who need it to operate the Service.

Please be advised that while we take every reasonable precaution to protect your data, no storage facility, technology, or data transmission can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.

Your Data Protection Rights (GDPR / UK GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to access, correct, update, or request deletion of your personal information; to object to or restrict certain processing; to data portability; and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. You may exercise these rights by contacting us or, where applicable, through our representative (see Representative above). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

Your California Privacy Rights

Under California Civil Code § 1798.83 (“Shine the Light”), California residents may request information about personal data disclosed to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. Bookmode does not disclose your personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. California residents also have rights under the CCPA and CPRA to know, access, correct, and delete personal information, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information — and Bookmode does not sell or share your personal information. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details in Contact Us below.

Your Nevada Privacy Rights

Under Nevada law (SB 220), Nevada residents have the right to opt out of the sale of their personal information to third parties who will license or sell that information to others. Bookmode does not sell your personal information to data brokers or other third parties. If you are a Nevada resident and wish to submit a verified opt-out request, you may do so using the details in Contact Us. We will respond to verified requests within 60 days, with up to a 30-day extension where reasonably necessary and notice to you.

Opt-Out / Unsubscribe

To opt out of receiving non-essential emails from us, follow the unsubscribe instructions included in the message, or email us. We may still send you essential service-related communications, such as security or billing notices, while your account is active.

Deleting, Modifying, and Updating Your Information

At your request, we will: (a) tell you what personal information we hold about you; (b) correct or amend that information; and (c) delete it from our systems, subject to the retention exceptions described in Data Retention. You can do this through your account settings, where available, or by emailing us.

International Data Transfers

Bookmode is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information will be processed in the United States, where data-protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technologies, legal requirements, or other factors. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice, such as an email to the address associated with your account or a prominent notice on the Site. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
